Pablo Sarabia's second half effort was enough to give the Andalusians the win, as well as bagging them a crucial away goal.
The Spaniard ran on to a clever through ball from Luis Muriel and he made no mistake in front of goal, toe-poking an effort past the goalkeeper.
It was his fifth goal in this Europa League qualifying campaign, underling his importance to Sevilla for the season to come.
The return leg will be played in Seville next week, with the winners going into the Europa League group stage.
Sevilla have history in the Europa League, winning the competition three times in recent years.
