Scottish clubs vote to end season in lower tiers due to coronavirus

It's official. The Championship, League One and League Two have officially ended in Scotland, and their leaders at the time of the break have been proclaimed champions.

This has been announced by the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL), through an official statement. It details that 81% of its member clubs have agreed to end the championships below the Premiership.

This means that the leaders at the time of the halt are crowned champions of their respective divisions. Dundee United, who were 14 points ahead of Inverness, are the 2019-20 Championship champions.

Raith Rovers have won League One against Falkirk by a single point, while the new League Two champions are Cove Rangers, who are 13 points clear of Edinburgh City.

All that remains is to settle the Scottish Premiership, with promotions and demotions to be considered. According to the press release, a restructuring of the top category is being considered, with only promotions going through. 

Any decision taken on the matter of the Premiership will be consulted beforehand with the clubs competing for it, the SPFL has assured. At the time of the stoppage, Celtic were leading the table, 23 points ahead of Rangers.

Heart of Midlothian were bottom, four points behind the second-to-last team. The Edinburgh club feared they would be one of those aggrieved by the early termination for that reason, but should the relegation be reversed they would surely breathe a sigh of relief.
