After barely four days of Euro 2020, we may have already witnessed the goal of the tournament. After Yarmolenko scored a stunner for Ukraine against Netherlands on Sunday evening, Schick may well have overtaken him for the most spectacular strike of the competition so far. He lobbed David Marshall in the Scotland goal from practically the halfway line.
It was the 52nd minute of the match when the Czech striker received the ball on the turn in the middle of the park. He raised his head and saw Marshall way off line, deciding to shoot immediately to take him by surprise. And that's exactly what he did. The ball flew over his head and into the back of the net, with the GK getting nowhere near it.
It's worth noting that it wasn't just a random punt from range. Schick's strike had precision and a lot of power. He struck the ball with his left in such a way that the ball looped into the air and curled perfectly into the back of the net, just under the bar, to make it 0-2 on the scoreline.
The goal made life incredibly difficult for a Scotland side that were pushing for an equaliser just moments before, and it looked likely that they might be about to mount a comeback. In the end, Schick's beautiful widened the gap between the two sides and sent Hampden park into a stunned silence.
