Liverpool came up against a surprise shock against German side, Greuther Furth. The Reds managed to scrape a draw (4-4) in their second pre-season friendly, following a win against Karlsruher (2-4).
On this occassion, Mohamed Salah (1 goal, 2 assists) and Darwin Nunez (2 goals, 1 assist) were the ones who saved Liverpool from embarrassment against a second division German side, keeping the team from their first loss of the new Anfield project.
Luis Diaz opened the scoring early for Liverpool, with an assist from Trent Alexander-Arnold, and their German opponents only drew level in the 47th minute. A quick brace inside ten minutes from Nunez, with both assists coming from Salah, looked to put the Reds comfortably ahead, but Greuther Furth continued fighting.
In the space of another ten minutes, the Germans managed to score three goals, putting themselves 4-3 up against Jurgen Klopp's Premier League side. Lukas Petkov and two from Armindo Sieb turned the tables on the English team and it looked like they would pull off a shock victory, until Liverpool's top scorer Salah snatched a goal in 89th minute, ending the fixture in a stalemate.
