Ronaldo has made a career out of tearing up the record books, especially if we are talking about goals. The Portugese star never misses on the big occasion and at 33 he is coming of age like a fine wine.
The forward netted three times against Spain in an incredible game and he was quickly named as the first person to score in nine consecutive international tournaments.
However, there is one man who had already achieved that feat - none other than Asamoah Gyan. Gyan scored in nine tournaments between 2006 and 2017 with Ghana. Ronaldo, whose run started in Euro 2004, took a year longer.
Gyan, who is also the highest scoring African in World Cup history with his six goals, began his run at the 2006 World Cup in Germany and has never tooked back. He has scored in every African Nations tournament since then as well as the World Cups in 2010 and 2014.
Ronaldo meanwhile scored in the European Championships of 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 and the World Cups in 2006, 2010, 2014 and now 2018. Added to this is the Confederations Cup in 2017, and that gives the Real Madrid man his nine tournaments.
The numbers are spectacular from Ronaldo, but unfortunately for him it is only enough to equal the record. Given the motivation that he has to better everyone around him, teams in Euro 2020 should be worried.
