When the twentieth century came to a close, former team-mate Fernando Hierro baptized Raul as the "Ferrari of the goals", given his prolific record, in which the legendary No. 7 for 'Los Blancos' spent years wreaking havoc on opposition defences.
Raul put on the Madrid shirt for the last time in 2010 against Real Zaragoza, ironically the same team he made his debut against in 1994, netting his final ever goal for the club and securing his 264th scoring game.
In his 16 seasons at the Bernabeu, Raul bagged an impressive 323 goals in 741 appearances - a feat many thought would not be beaten. Enter Cristiano Ronaldo.
One by one the Portuguese forward edged nearly to the iconic tally, surpassing it in October 2015 to become Madrid's all-time leading goalscorer. However, Raul still had one record that Ronaldo hasn't been able to touch... until now.
If the 33-year-old finds the back of the net against Real Betis on Sunday, which is very likely given that he has been included in Zinedine Zidane's squad for the trip, he will equal his former team-mate's scoring game tally (264).
It would be a remarkable achievement given that Raul's record is way ahead of Carlos Alonso Gonzalez 'Santillana' (229) and Alfredo Di Stefano (197), also Madrid legends, and if Ronaldo doesn't succeed on Sunday, you know that he will equal and surpass it at some point this season.
The forward just can't seem to help breaking records at the Bernabeu.
