The images of Richarlison crying on the Brazil bench that went round the world a few days ago now have an explanation. He gave it himself, after the 'Selecao' defeated Peru. Speaking to the media, the Tottenham striker confessed that he has been suffering from personal problems for months that have affected him mentally and will lead him to seek psychological help.
"Now I will go back to England and seek psychological help, from a psychologist, to work on my mind. That's it, I will come back stronger. I think I will be in the next squad, I will work for that. It's about having a good run at Tottenham. I'm going to sit down and talk to them this week, I need to get into a game rhythm and get here right," said the 26-year-old striker.
Brazil were leading Bolivia 4-1 last Saturday when Richarlison was replaced by Matheus Cunha in the 71st minute. The game went on and all the while, the cameras focused on the Nova Venecia native's tear-stained face. As he confessed, it had nothing to do with football: "That sad moment was not because I played badly. In my opinion, I didn't play a bad game in Belém. It was more an outburst because of things that were happening to me off the pitch, which got out of control. Not by me, but by people close to me".
"I went through a turbulent time in the last five months, but now things are fine at home. People who only had their eye on my money have moved away from me. Now things will start to flow, I'm sure I'll have a good season at Tottenham and get things back on track," Richarlison said.
