The Real Betis captain continues proving that age is only a number. At 38, he continues making history and this Sunday he played in his 400th game for the club (307th La Liga). It is because of that and other things that he is still keen to carry on playing.
"I would like to continue," he stated when he was asked about his plans for next season, because his contract runs out at the end of this season: "Retiring has never crossed my mind."
In addition, Joaquin joked about the words of Jose Miguel Lopez Catalan, who said he would offer him a blank cheque: "He says it because he knows I haven't got long left (laughs). It was a normal chat. I don't know if now or later on we will try and extend the contract for a year... but without forcing anything. We don't need to be in a hurry."
"If I'm here it's to play, if not, I would stay at home. In life you have to do what one feels. Right now, I feel keen and I don't want to be gifted anything. Nobody wants to be here for no reason. Sometimes I talk about this with my wife and she says that I am the best. The decision is not easy, but I will try and be as fair as possible with Betis and myself," he concluded
