The tie demanded it. Zidane's men knew that they'd have to sweat if they wanted to leave the pitch victorious in the first leg of the last-16 tie with PSG.
When it comes to big occasions, Madrid know how to step up in the Bernabeu. The players' high attacking work-rate did not at all mean a compromise in their defensive efforts - they left everything on the pitch.
Before the fixture, Real were running around 108,000 meters per game. Against PSG, however, 'Los Blancos' racked up a combined total of 123,644 meters - 15,706 more than their average!
One man's distance covered statistics particularly stood out. Toni Kroos lead his side's leaderboard with 13,361 meters covered compared to his average of 9,889. The German was run ragged in the midfield as PSG dominated a lot of possession.
It's also worth noting that Isco, Casemiro and Benzema, who were all substituted, ran more than ever in the Bernabeu showing impressive determination when it matters most.
