Real Madrid keep Carvajal with derby in mind

It was around the hour mark when Dani Carvajal, who was about to be substituted in discomfort, decided to go on the attack and found the net after a mistake by the Espanyol defence. The Real Madrid right-back was then substituted as a precaution.

On Monday, the medical services and the club's fitness trainers felt that the right thing to do was to maintain this cautious approach and Carvajal did not train in the team's return to Valdebebas. The captain was the main absentee from the session due to a knock that will leave him with muscle pain for several days.

Given the intense schedule, the player has been ruled out of Tuesday's game against Deportivo Alaves at the Bernabeu, and Carvajal's intention is to rest and return after this game to prepare normally for the Madrid derby against Atletico at the weekend. 

Lucas Vazquez will keep his place against Alaves, who have made a surprising start to the season and after six games are sixth with ten points.
