Real Madrid injury curse continues: Alaba to miss 2-3 weeks with muscle injuy

Real Madrid's injury problems continue to pile up, especially in defence. Carlo Ancelotti's side announced on Tuesday that they have a new absentee for their upcoming games.

According to the Santiago Bernabeu club, Austrian David Alaba will be out for the next two or three weeks after suffering a muscle injury in the adductor muscle of his left leg. This is a major setback for Alaba in his recovery from the same leg in which he suffered the anterior cruciate knee ligament injury that kept him out of action for 399 days.

"Following tests carried out on our player David Alaba by Real Madrid's medical services, he has been diagnosed with an adductor injury in his left leg," the club said in a statement about the player. Alab made his return on 19 January, playing the last 14 minutes of Real Madrid's 4-1 win at home to UD Las Palmas. Since then, he played 26 minutes in the 5-1 Champions League win over Salzburg and 22 minutes in the 3-0 win at Pucela.

In this way, the former Bayern Munich man joins Antonio Rudiger, who will also miss the next few games for 'Los Blancos' due to physical problems. In addition to these, there are long-term injuries to two key players in Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao.

With all this, Carlo Ancelotti is left with practically no alternatives beyond the Tchouameni-Asencio duo to form the centre-back pairing. This is a very delicate situation considering that over the next few days the Spanish team will be playing for a large part of their campaign in the Copa del Rey (quarter-finals against Leganes), La Liga (derby against Atletico) and Champions League (playoff against Manchester City).
