Real Madrid easily won the UEFA Super Cup after a comfortable 2-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in Helsinki. After a relatively even first 30 minutes, Real Madrid took charge of the contest and deservedly won the match. David Alaba gave Madrid the lead just before the interval and then Karim Benzema netted with 25 minutes remaining. Frankfurt missed Filip Kostic who is set to join Juventus.
The UEFA Super Cup got off to a quiet start with Real Madrid having more possession, but with few clear-cut chances. However, after the first 10 to 15 minutes, the game opened up. Lindstrom stung the hands of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, but the flag had gone up for offside. Then, Santos Borre played for a lovely pass for Kamada, who was one on one with the goalkeeper, but Courtois made a terrific stop to keep it 0-0.
At the other end, Real Madrid nearly made it 1-0 after 17 minutes when Valverde went down the near side and crossed for Benzema, who laid off for Vinicius and the Brazilian's strike was cleared off the line by Tuta. The contest remained very even and Frankfurt had another effort after 24 minutes when Kamada picked out Lindstrom and Courtois was called into action once again. However, Real Madrid picked up in the final 10 minutes of the half and their class told.
Vinicius played a lovely one-two with Karim Benzema and Vinicius' goalbound effort was superbly tipped wide for a corner by Trapp. Then, from the resulting corner, Madrid took the lead. Kroos' corner found Benzema in the box, the deflected header was headed by Casemiro from the by-line back into the middle and Alaba hit into an empty net. Benzema had an opportunity to make it two just before the interval, but it went narrowly wide.

The second half saw Real Madrid dominate the contest even more and they were extremely comfortable. Benzema could have made it two after being played in by Mendy and Trapp made a fine save. Then, good combination play involving Kroos, Modric and Casemiro saw the Brazilian strike the crossbar from the edge of the D just after the hour mark.
Frankfurt had a rare sight of goal a few minutes later as Knauff got into the area and forced a fine save out of Courtois, but they conceded a second in the 65th minute and that was that. A ball forward found Vinicius on the near side and he cut inside and played to Benzema, whose effort beat Trapp, who should have done much better.
Little happened in the rest of the contest as Frankfurt were resigned to their fate and Madrid were extremely comfortable. The La Liga side brought on new signings Rudiger and Tchouameni for their first competitive appearance and it was party time amongst the Madrid players. Frankfurt badly missed Kostic and were only really in the game for the first 30 minutes against a classy Madrid team.
