David Raya came through the academy at Blackburn Rovers, worked his way up through the Championship at Brentford and has now capped the best season of his career as Arsenal's first-choice goalkeeper. The Spaniard is on loan from the Bees, who would have to pay just over 30 million euros to secure his services.
The goalkeeper, who was asked about his future after his side's win over Everton on the final day of the season, was candid: "I would love to stay here next season. It would be incredible, a dream come true to sign for this club. It's not up to me about the contract. It's up to the club and Mikel [Arteta]. If my performances have been good enough, hopefully, they will offer me a long-term contract."
His performances have not only been up to expectations, but above. He has won the English Premier League Golden Glove. His manager asked the board to bring him in because he didn't quite trust Aaron Ramsdale to help his teammates off the ball.
This summer David Raya could be part of the Spanish national team at the European Championships in Germany although what is in the script of ‘La Roja’ is that Luis de la Fuente uses Athletic's Unai Simon as his main option.
