Racing club coach in trouble after racist 'banana' gesture

Juan Carlos Gambande is awaiting his punishment after he was photographed eating an imaginary banana in the direction of supporters, following Racing Club's 2-1 defeat against Atletico Mineiro.

The goalkeeping coach made the gesture after his side were knocked out at the last-16 stage by the Brazilian club and his actions have sparked outrage in South America. 

The banana gesture has been interpreted to imply that the Brazilian fans were monkeys. 

Gambande has made no public statement, but did nod his head when asked if he regretted the gesture.
