Premier League drop PSR charges against Everton

The Premier League are no longer pursuing an outstanding profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) complaint against Everton, the club confirmed earlier on Friday. The dispute had been ongoing between the league and the Merseyside club due to the latter's 2022/23 accounts.

On top of the six points deducted for a financial breach, the Toffees were deducted a further two last April for the accounting period ending June 2023. However, Everton announced that the dispute has been resolved, meaning no further action will be taken by the Premier League.

A joint statement from both Everton and the Premier League read: “The second part of the case was paused to allow time for the club to provide further information and documents to the Premier League Board concerning the relevant accounting treatment adopted".

The statement added: “After considering the further information and documents provided by the club in detail, the Premier League Board has concluded that it would not be appropriate or proportionate to continue to pursue the second part of their complaint. The club and the league agree that this brings to an end all proceedings between the league and the club in relation to the club’s breaches of the PSR for the financial years ending 30 June 2022 and 30 June 2023".
