Player is racially abused, scores and then tells them to be quiet!

The Dutch striker, of Guinea descent, went towards the stands where the insults were coming from, celebrated the goal, put his arms out and then his hands to his ears. The crowd whistled Mendes Moreira in response. 

His teammates took him away from there after a few seconds because some objects rained down from the stand and then Mendes put his index finger to his lips, clearly telling them to be quiet. 

Minutes beforehand, the referee Laurens Gerrets temporarily halted the game and sent the players to the dressing rooms because of the racist chanting, while the Excelsior footballers were consoling their teammate. Mendes Moreira was visibly upset by what had taken place. 

The match resumed at the specific request of Excelsior, the referee himself told 'FOX Sports'. 

The goal from Mendes Moreira made it 1-2 and the match ended three-all. The home team later apologised in a statement and promised to take action against those involved. 

Hours before the game, there was tension in Den Bosch because home fans looked to confront a group of anti-racism protesters.
