Pique, out against Betis... and goodbye to the season?

This has not been Pique's best season. In recent months, he has been suffering from injuries that have caused him to miss several matches.

The centre-back suffers from adductor tendinopathy which, according to FC Barcelona, has been aggravated recently. "He has a flare-up," the club said.

The Catalan player had been playing with discomfort in the area for weeks. He had to be substituted in the last La Liga match against Mallorca in the first half.

In case there was any doubt, Pique will be out of the squad for Saturday's game against Betis at the Benito Villamarin. It is also unlikely that he will be able to take part in the other three games that remain until the end of the season.

Barcelona have preferred to be cautious and have not given an estimated time out. "He is out and his recovery will determine his availability," the club said in a statement.
