It's not normal for Gerard Pique to be taking free-kicks, but that's exactly what he did against Venezuela when playing a rare game for his native Catalonia. On 36 minutes his chance came, and went.
He took aim with his right-foot, getting a fair amount of power on the ball, but couldn't bring it down fast enough for it to go in. The goal would surely have gone down in Catalonia legend. The centre-back in known for scoring other types of goal, however, having scored a number with his head for Spain and Barcelona.
Pique was taken off six minutes into the second half, leaving the pitch to be replaced by Riqui Puig, the young Barcelona defender. He had a big smile on his face as he departed, and his happiness seemed well-placed as Catalonia ran out 2-1 winners.
