Pepe Reina on the World Cup

Villarreal goalkeeper Pepe Reina was a great player in the recent past of Spain for his role in the generation that won a World Cup and two European Championships. He spoke about several topics in an interview for 'La Nacion'.

The former Liverpool footballer spoke about the World Cup in Qatar: "It will be different, without precedents. It will be practically in winter for the European teams. In my opinion, a little better for the South American teams, who have a bit of an advantage. We'll have to see, because we can't rule out any surprises. Those who adapt best to conditions will be the ones fighting for the final victory," Reina said.

The goalkeeper wanted to talk about the 2010 Spanish national team: "I think we went down in history not only for winning, but also for playing in a very particular way, with great respect for the good play philosophy, of trying to create a school in our country that would last for years.

"I believe that a similar philosophy is still maintained and that team, or the previous one with Luis Aragones, were responsible for Spain being recognised today for playing good football," he concluded.
