The former England international could be seen bleeding profusely from around the eye as he left the field following an aerial challenge with Simon Francis.
As Rooney walked from the field he could be seen gesturing to the referee, suggesting to referee Martin Atkinson that the 'Cherries' skipper had used an elbow in the challenge.
The video replays appeared to suggest that Rooney had a point but that will have come a scant consolation to the bloodied striker.
Everton fans booed the match officials off the pitch at half-time but were also frustrated with yet another tepid performance from their side.
