The Argentina-born Italian's career was filled with a number of controversial incidents, but also a decent goal record.
The 30-year-old scored a total of 87 career goals in 283 appearances which saw him play in five different countries.
However, the former "Saint" was sacked by his most recent club - Boca Juniors - after he was caught smoking in the changing room.
He also punched team-mate Erik Lamela in 2011 while at Roma whe he failed to pass the ball to Osvaldo in a match against Udinese. He was also fined £40,000 and banned for three matches while at Southampton in 2014 and headbutted team-mate and captain Jose Fonte while at St Mary's.
Osvaldo announced the decision after he turned down a deadline day offer by Chievo, who would have been the player's 13th club in 11 years.
