OFFICIAL: Witsel signs new Atletico deal until 2025

What was an open secret has been confirmed: midfielder Axel Witsel has earned his continuity at the Metropolitano. The Belgian, whose contract with the Madrid side was due to expire on 30th June, has extended his contract until 30th June 2025.

"The Belgian international, who has made 94 official appearances as a 'Rojiblanco', will continue to defend our colours for another season," Atletico announced on their website.

Witsel has become a key player of Simeone's team. In fact, as detailed by the club, he is the player with the most minutes played in the 2023-24 season, with 4.119. Only Oblak surpasses him.

The player is delighted at Atletico Madrid and has left a message to the fans: "I am very happy to stay one more year at this great club. Atleticos, see you soon.

The Belgian, who arrived on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022, has become indispensable for Simeone. In this second season as a 'Rojiblanco', he has made 51 appearances, starting 45 of them. He has scored two goals and hopes to give the fans a lot more joy next season.
