Jose Mourinho is in luck. Georginio Wijnaldum became Roma's new player on Friday, joining on loan from PSG for the 2022-23 season that is about to begin.
According to local media reports, the deal includes an eight million buyout clause for the Italians. In Paris, the Dutchman is unlikely to establish himself despite being one of last summer's big-name reinforcements.
The midfielder arrived in France after a great performance at Liverpool. He won the Champions League and made 237 appearances in five seasons, scoring 22 goals and providing 15 assists.
However, at PSG, he has not had the expected prominence. At Anfield, he always managed between 3,300 official minutes per year and more than 3,800 in 2020-21, while he did not even reach 2,000 (1,993) at the Parc des Princes, with 22 starts in 38 games, three goals and three assists.
Wijnaldum's arrival strengthens a midfield that has been weakened by the departure of Sergio Oliveira. The Porto player, who was on loan at Olimpico last season, was a key player, especially in attacking play, a role to which the Dutchman, a good finisher from the second line, can also provide goals.
