What a signing Nacional have made. The 35 year old striker, Luis Suarez, has joined the ranks at the Uruguayan club. A footballer who took his first steps as a professional at the club returns with a wealth of experience and success.
Nacional have signed the striker following his contract completion with previous club, Atletico Madrid, on 30th June. He received a number of offers from the South American football sphere, but none enticed him as much as the one that came from the club with which he began his professional career.
'El Pistolero', left Nacional at 19, when he signed for Groningen. From there, he went to Ajax before signing for Liverpool in the January transfer window of the 2010/11 season. There, he made a name for himself. In summer 2014, Barca came calling and, six years later, he left the Camp Nou following a phone call with then manager, Ronald Koeman, who told the Uruguayan that he did not want him at his disposal for the 2020/21 campaign.
Diego Pablo Simeone was interested in Suarez's services and so convinced him to sign for Atletico. Thanks to the Uruguayan, the team won La Liga that season. After two campaigns as a 'Colchonero', he returns to his native Uruguay.
The Nacional fanbase are elated with his reutrn. They demonstrated this during their recent match against Cerrito. He was honoured in the 9th minute of the game when 15 000 fans wore a mask with his face printed on it.
Luis Suarez himself was given the responsibility of announcing the pre agreement he had made with Nacional. Now, the striker has made his move fully official.
