OFFICIAL: Spain, Morocco and Portugal to host 2030 World Cup

It's now official. FIFA confirmed on Wednesday the venues for the 2030 World Cup, which will be played jointly in six different countries.

Spain will host the 2030 World Cup alongside Morocco and Portugal. Although initially, it was only going to host the World Cup together with Portugal, the North African country has finally joined as the second most important venue in terms of number of stadiums.

It has been 42 years since Spain last hosted a World Cup, and it will be 48 by 2030. The country has not hosted a major football event since 1982. Now it will do so together with two other countries.

FIFA confirmed on Wednesday the candidacy of Spain, Portugal and Morocco as organisers. In addition, a match will be played in Montevideo, another in Buenos Aires and another in Asunción as a tribute to the first World Cup in history, which was held in 1930 in Uruguay.

The Spanish territory will have eleven of the 20 venues where the 2030 World Cup will be played. They will be the Santiago Bernabeu, Camp Nou, Metropolitano, Riazor, RCDE Stadium, San Mames, Estadio de Gran Canaria, La Rosaleda, Anoeta, Nuevo Romareda and La Cartuja.

Morocco, meanwhile, will have six stadiums: Grand Stade Hassan II, Grand Stade Agadir, Grand Stade Fés, Grand Stade Marrakech, Prince Moulay Abdellah and Grand Stade de Tanger. Portugal is left with only three venues: Da Luz, Jose Alvalade and Do Dragao.
