OFFICIAL: Southampton sack Pellegrino

With one win in 17 Premier League games, Southampton's form as of late has been dire. Under Pellegrino, Saints went from a team with successive Europa League campaigns to a relegation candidate. 

It seems that Sunday's humiliating 3-0 loss to Newcastle was the final straw for the board at the club, who wasted no time and announced the Argentine's sacking 48 hours later.

Southampton are only a point above the drop with eight games to play, their next game an FA Cup quarter-final with League One Wigan Athletic before a crucial trip to 16th-placed West Ham.

Along with the announcement tweet, Southampton published a statement that read: "The club will look to appoint a new management team as soon as possible, with the search for a replacement already under way."

All eyes will be on Saints to see who they choose to lead them through their pivotal run-in.
