Newell's announced the signing of Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who joins as a free player following his departure from PSG in mid-2024.
“Proud to announce that Keylor Navas is the new goalkeeper of Newell's Old Boys. Welcome to your new home!” wrote the Rosario club through its ‘X’ profile, where it described the goalkeeper as ”an international legend.”
Keylor himself announced his incorporation to the 'Lepra' through his networks, with a message in which he said he felt “prepared, eager and very happy to face this new challenge.”
“Thanks to Newell's for the trust and for betting on me,” he added in his ‘X’ profile, to which the club responded: ‘Happy to have you. Welcome to the Glorioso, Keylor!’.
The experienced goalkeeper arrives at Newell's after six months out of action, following his spells at Madrid, PSG and Nottingham Forest, among others.
San Lorenzo, Colo Colo and Gremio approached the Costa Rican, but the goalkeeper finally decided to join the 'Leproso', which trusts in the San Jose-born player to improve a 2024 season to forget.
Newell's will not have international competition this season and its official debut in the local Apertura League Cup will be on Thursday, against Independiente Rivadavia de Mendoza.
In addition to the local League Cups (Apertura and Clausura), the team from Rosario will compete in the Argentine Cup - opening on April 2nd against Kimberley de Mar del Plata - in an attempt to be crowned champion again, something they have not achieved since 2013.
