After several weeks of tough negotiations between FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich, the two clubs have finally reached an agreement for Robert Lewandowski. The Pole will sign a three-year contract with the possibility of a fourth, and the Catalan club will pay around 50 million euros to the Bundesliga champions.
Lewandowski has always made clear his desire to play for Barcelona since he confirmed at the end of May that his time at Bayern Munich had come to an end. However, despite the player's clear intentions, the German club have not made it easy for him to leave, as they wanted him to honour his contract, which expires in 2023, or for Barça to accept his financial demands.
The '9' joined Bayern in 2014 and since then has scored 344 goals in 374 official matches, something no one could have imagined when he arrived at the club eight years ago. In addition, he has won all eight Bundesliga titles he has played in since his arrival, something that is only within the reach of European giants Bayern.
As for Barcelona, after failing to win any titles last season, the Spaniards have been looking to strengthen their squad since the beginning of the summer in order to fight for as many titles as possible next season. The club first made official the signings of Kessie and Christensen, and after weeks of negotiations with Leeds and thanks to the efforts of the Brazilian himself, Raphinha was the third official signing of the Catalans. Finally, Lewandowski is the club's fourth signing of the summer and was undoubtedly the most desired of all.
The end of this transfer saga came with a tweet from Fabrizio Romano in which the market expert confirmed that Bayern had accepted Barcelona's latest proposal for the player. Hours later Hainer, Bayern's director, confirmed his departure and that they had reached an agreement with the Catalan club: “We’ve reached a verbal agreement with Barcelona for Lewandowski. It’s good to have clarity for all parties. Robert is an incredible player and he won everything with us. We are incredibly grateful to him".
Finally all that was left was for it to be made official and so it is. 'Lewy' arrives at Barcelona with the intention of continuing doing what he knows best, scoring goals and winning titles. There is no doubt that the next 'Clasicos' are going to be fiercely disputed with both teams having in their ranks some of the best strikers in the world such as Benzema and the Pole.
