Sampdoria announced on Friday the signing of Spanish striker Jese Rodriguez on a free. "Sampdoria are announcing that they have definitely acquired the rights over footballer Jese Rodriguez," the club said in a statement.
The 29 year-old striker from the Canary Islands terminated his contract with Turkish side Ankaragucu in January. He has not played a match since 27th December 2022.
Jese, formerly of Real Madrid and PSG, joins a Sampdoria side in need of goals in order to stay in the top flight. In his last 16 games in Turkey, he scored five goals.
Sampdoria, coached by former Inter player Dejan Stankovic, are 19th in Serie A and eight points off safety. They have not won since beating Sassuolo 1-2 on 4th February. To make things worse, their financial situation is not the best. 'La Gazzetta dello Sport' reported that Sampdoria could be docked two points for not paying their players on time.
Jese will wear the number 99 shirt for Sampdoria and his debut could come on Monday at home to Inter Milan.
