Jagoba Arrasate is the new coach of Mallorca. The Basque coach has swapped Osasuna, with whom his contract expires this June, for Mallorca.
The islanders needed a new coach after deciding not to renew Javier Aguirre. They have opted for another coach who has triumphed at his previous club, Arrasate, who has left El Sadar as an idol.
"Jagoba Arrasate becomes the new coach of RCD Mallorca. The Basque coach has signed a contract that will keep him linked to the club until 30 June 2027," the club said in a statement.
Arrasate arrives at Mallorca after a successful six-year spell at Osasuna, which he managed to promote from Segunda to Primera. His greatest achievement, beyond that, is playing in the qualifying round of the Conference League last season.
"I think all coaches are about challenges and projects. It's something we say many times, but it's not easy to find in professional football. And after this wonderful time at Osasuna, for which I am very grateful to all the people of Pamplona, we are now embarking on another challenge, another project, and I am very excited because that is what a coach wants: to build something,’ said Arrasate in his first words as Mallorca coach.
The coach sums up his new club as ‘emerging’. "The last few years prove it. They offer me confidence, a project. I think that when I have had the chance to be with them, in the end what a coach likes is to feel loved and they have transmitted that interest and that project to me as well. The temporary nature is very important because I believe that the three years give me the margin to be able to build on what I have inherited, which is very good", he added.
