The deal sees the 28-year-old striker join West Bromwich Albion on a season-long loan, while Salomón Rondon switches to Tyneside under the same arrangement to join Newcastle.
Gayle is no stranger to the Championship, as he scored 23 in 32 appearances to inspire Newcastle’s promotion charge in 2016/17.

Head Coach Darren Moore admitted his proven track record and Gayle’s style of play were key factors in his decision to make the swap.
He told the club's website: “This deal was in the best interests of both clubs. Dwight is a proven goalscorer in the Championship. He’s quick and sharp off the back of defenders and I believe he will add to our goal threat.”
Gayle added: “The manager attracted me. He’s really enthusiastic about my game and I’m buzzing to come down and I can’t wait to get started."
Newcastle will pay a £2m loan fee for their part of the deal, which includes no obligation to buy.
