The Championship side announced via Twitter that their star defender and captain would be leaving the club to join Sean Dyche's men.
The player had been at club since he was 12 years old, and rose through the ranks to have a break-out season in 2016-17 that saw him earn a call up to the England squad.
After Middlesbrough were relegated from the Premier League that same season, Gibson went on to make 50 appearances in all competitions for 'The Boro' last season.
His move to the 'Clarets' had been rumoured for some time, and he did not take part in his now-former club's draw against Millwall on Saturday.
He becomes the first signing of the transfer window for Burnley, and is thought to have cost around £15 million.
Gibson will now get the chance to play in the Premier League and Europa League, which could see him return to the England side should he maintain the impressive form he has shown for his boyhood club over the last few years.
