Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is retiring from the Gabon national team. The Barcelona striker, after 61 appearances, 28 goals and two assists for his national team, has informed his country's federation that he wishes to put an end to his international career. He will therefore be 100% focused on the 2022-23 season with the Catalan giants.
The national team's next match will be against Congo in early June. It will be a qualifier for the Africa Cup of Nations, so the coach will have to make the changes he deems necessary so that his striker does not miss the good work of the 'culé'.
"The captain of the 'Panthers' will not be with the national team for the next adventure of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The Barcelona striker has decided to put an end to his international career. He sent a letter to the Federation on Tuesday 17th 2022: "After 13 years of loyalty (...), I announce that I am ending my international career," reads the text.
Aubameyang, in this letter reproduced in full by his federation, expressed his gratitude, as usual in this type of communication, to all his team-mates and coaches. He also made a special mention of his president, who he believes is doing a good job.
