What a game and what a result for Norwich City, in a clash that shocked everyone. Norwich City came into this game with a lot of injury problems, as 4 of their first team players were out. They even had to name two keepers on the bench to make up the numbers. John Stones replaced the injured Aymeric Laporte for Manchester City.
The game started off very quiet, with little going on from both sides. However, it was in the 17th minute that Norwich kicked off the scoring! Mclean just sneaked up past the defenders and headed the ball past the keeper into the back of the net. No chance for Ederson. Perfect delivery from the corner by Buendia to the near post too. This was sure to give Norwich some confidence. Nobody came there today expecting a result so this early lead rocked the Stadium.
It was only ten minutes later that Norwich doubled their lead after Pukki made an excellent run up the pitch, passed to Cantwell, who was in the box and just slotted the ball past the keeper and into the back of the net with a simple touch. Walker complained about an offside here, but VAR checked it and the goal was allowed as Walker actually played them onside.
Norwich had defended excellently in the first half and it will be a memorable first half for the fans. It wasn't until just before half time that Aguero got a goal for City to start off their comeback, after Norwich just switched off and their defence was split. The ball was crossed in to Aguero and he headed it in the back of the net.
The second half kicked off with wave after wave of Man City attacks, but just like that Norwich's two goal cushion was restored after City defenders messed up massively, just messing about with the ball in the box, Buendia took it off Otemendi and passed to Pukki, who of course, did not miss. 3-1. Serious error there from the City defence.
This time last year Norwich City were 19th in the Championship table, this year, after being promoted as champions, they were minutes away from beating last year's Premier League champions and making what everyone thought impossible, possible.
It was not until the 87th minute that City got another goal, Rodri shot from range at the edge of the box after it slipped through the Norwich defence. This made it a long few minutes for Norwich, who wanted to hold on to the win and take home the three points.
Norwich City players gave it their all in the final minutes of the game, some went down with cramp and had to hold on for another 5 or so minutes until they could achieve what they thought they wouldn't coming into this game. Buendia had an excellent game and Sam Byram really made an impact in his first game this season for Norwich.
After 4 minutes of added time the referee blew the whistle on what was a shock result for everyone. Man City taste Premier League defeat for the first time since January. Norwich gave it their all and you could tell by the players reactions, they were absolutely exhausted as they did everything they could to hold on to their lead. What a result for Norwich, which will leave Daniel Farke proud. The stadium was going mental as they have achieved the impossible. 3-2 Norwich City, they have beaten the Champions!! Pep Guardiola will not be happy with his sides performance, as City were far from their best and he would have thought it would be an easy-win game.
