The LFP Disciplinary Committee struck hard on Wednesday, announcing that Youcef Atal would be suspended for the next seven Ligue 1 matches, starting on 31st October, for spreading a message of hatred against Israel on social networks.
As a result, the Algerian will not be able to play again in 2023, and will return on 14th January for Rennes-Nice.
On Instagram, the Nice full-back republished a video against Israel, in which a Palestinian preacher calls on God to send "a black day over the Jews" and "to accompany the hand" of the inhabitants of Gaza "if they throw the stone".
His club, OGC Nice, issued a statement saying that they had "called Youcef Atal in for a meeting and had discussions with him" and that, despite the fact that "the player has acknowledged his mistake", they had "decided to suspend him until further notice".
