Paris Saint-Germain published a statement on Monday night divulging the extent of Neymar's injury, which saw him carried off on a stretcher in Sunday's 3-0 victory over rivals Marseille. In addition to a sprained ankle, the Brazilian suffered a slight fracture of the fifth metatarsal and now could be sidelined for three to four weeks.
However, those in the player's circle have not given up hope on the 26-year-old's chances of playing in the crunch Champions League second leg against Real Madrid on March 6.
According to French newspaper 'L'Equipe', a source close to Neymar said: "[The injury] is less serious than we feared, but we must still be patient to know a little more".
Given the estimated period of absense for this type of injury, it would arguably be foolish for PSG to rush their star forward back, especially with an important World Cup in the summer for Brazil, although undoubtedly both the club and the player will want to play.
It's going to be a difficult decision for Unai Emery and Neymar, with the return leg only a week away.
