Charlie Austin, 30, is an experienced English striker who has been at Southampton for the last three and a half seasons. He is far from the goalscorer who shone at Burnley and QPR, but he does his job.
That is exactly what Newcastle are looking for, a striker who contributes to the team's attacking play, but is also capable of scoring. The Magpies are confident Austin can keep on scoring goals.
'TMW' reports that Newcastle are thinking of him this summer and the fact he is struggling to get into the Southampton side could make Austin move earlier than expected.
Last season he made 27 appearances for the Saints, but only twelve were as a starter. He scored three goals and gave three assists. He has netted a total of 20 times in 81 matches for Southampton, a long way off the 48 he got in 89 QPR appearances and the 44 goals he scored in 90 games for Burnley.
