Newcastle's Tonali could be suspended for almost a year

Sandro Tonali, guilty of betting on a number of Serie A matches, including matches involving his former team, could face a suspension of several months or even years by the Italian Football Federation.

Although the verdict has not yet been announced, even though the player has given evidence and cooperated with the court, the Italian press is reporting that he is likely to be suspended for 10 or even 12 months.

As a result, the Newcastle player will miss the rest of the season with his club, including the forthcoming Champions League matches, as well as Euro 2024 if Italy qualify. The suspension would be less severe than expected due to his cooperation with the Italian authorities.

Tonali, who came on against Crystal Palace last weekend, could have played his last game before September 2024.
