Newcastle in Schar talks

Rafa Benitez is keen to bring in defensive reinforcements, but he is struggling for funds under the Mike Ashley regime. 

However, Schar represents international experience at an affordable price. The defender has a release clause in hs contract following Depor's relegation to the Spanish Segunda. 

Schar has spent just the one year in Galicia after moving from Hoffenheim. The German outfit were his first club outside of his native Switzerland, after he moved from Basel in 2015. 

He has 42 Swiss caps, representing his country at both Euro 2016 and the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Should Newcastle sign him, it is likely that Chancel Mbemba can finally complete his move to Porto.
