The player posted a photo of him in a hopsital bed on Tuesday evening, showing that he had undegone an operation to repair the damage done.
Newcastle's official website spoke to the club's manager Rafa Benitez in which he confirmed that he had been incontact with the former Eibar player.
"The doctor says it has gone well and he seems to be in good spirits. I join everybody at the club in wishing him a speedy recovery," Lejeune said.
Fabian Schar was signed in July as competition for Lejeuene and Jamal Lascelles, but it seems he will get the opportunity to play most of the season in Lejeune's place, even though a timescale for recovery has not been released yet.
