Bayern Munich didn't get their 2021/22 campaign off to the best of starts. Nagelsmann's debut at the helm ended up in a 3-2 defeat against Koln, although his side were without their usual big stars.
Bayern did put themselves in front after just six minutes. Young striker Armindo Sieb, just 18-years-old, rifled a shot into the top corner with his right to mike it 0-1. Their happiness didn't last too long, however.
Koln turned the game on its head with two goals in seven minutes. At the 20-minute mark, Thielmann found himself completely unmarked against Ulreich and fired his shot across the goalkeeper to make it 1-1. The strike to make it 2-1 was particularly special. On 27 minutes, Schaub caught the ball in mid-air with an acrobatic back-heel which flashed into the corner of the net. A brilliant finish.
Before the break, Bayern were able to draw level thanks to Zirkzee. The 20-year-old forward, who already made appearances for the first team last season and of whom a lot is expected, made it 2-2 with his finish from close range after a killer pass was played into him.
But Koln deserved more over the course of the match and would end up finding their just reward. It was Uth, with his second goal of the game, who regained his side's advantage on 56 minutes. A stinging header sealed the first defeat of the Nagelsmann era at Bayern.
