Nacho drilled home a beauty to give Spain the lead

With the game finely poised following four goals in the opening hour, Nacho decided the time had come for him to justify his selection.

Diego Costa's brace had cancelled out Cristiano Ronaldo's two-goal salvo, when Nacho stunned onlookers with the best goal of the night.

Portugal must have thought they had cleared the danger as the ball bobbled into the path of the defender 25 yards out, only for him to lash a first-time effort off the outside of his boot and into the far corner via the inside of the post without even breaking stride.

The goal was Nacho's first for his country and it will certainly be a memorable one as he made amends for giving away a first-half penalty.
