Arsenal came in to the game looking to get a second consecutive win in the Premier League in what would be a dificult test.
Cardiff are known for using their physicality but it was Arsenal that took the lead through a direct goal.
Granit Xhaka swung in a corner from the left hand side of the pitch, and defender Shkodran Mustafi out-muscled his marker and headed the ball in powerfully.
