The former Manchester United and Sunderland boss replaces Slaven Bilic at the London Stadium after the Croatian coach was sacked on Monday.
Speaking to 'Sky Sports', Adam backed his compatriot Moyes to be a success with the Hammers, despite the club currently sitting in the relegation zone in the Premier League.
"They have gone with the business decision between David Gold, David Sullivan and Karren Brady, that if they did not change now, they could be under severe pressure and struggle to get out of the relegation zone," said Adam.
"But Moyes coming in is a fantastic appointment. He will learn from his past experiences at Sunderland, Real Sociedad and even the Man Utd job. He will get criticised for that, but I felt he was harshly done by at United.
"I have been lucky enough to meet him a few times over the last couple of years, and recently as only last Wednesday I met him at a game - Preston against Aston Villa - and he had a real buzz about him.
"He was excited, looked fresh and ready to go and he knows it is a big challenge for him, but what a wonderful opportunity at West Ham."
Adam believes Moyes' considerable top-flight experience makes him the perfect man to take the reigns at the east London club.
"There is nobody who knows the league as good as Moyes, he has that experience of the Premier League, so I think that is why it is a good appointment," he said.
"Let's get to the end of the season - I know it is still another 20-odd games, but it is now about steadying the ship, stop the rot and build to the end of the season. And then go from there."
