"Mou used me to show people his power in the locker room"

Burton Albion recently appointed Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as their new coach and the former player was once again in the news in an interview with the Daily Mail in which he recalled his departure from Chelsea and spoke of Jose Mourinho's personality.

"He used me as an example. He wanted to show that he could let any player go. I was still the top scorer, although that year they had signed two great strikers in Hernan Crespo and Mutu. Mourinho wanted to show who was the boss and he used me," he recalled.

Hasselbaink compared him to what is happening at Tottenham with Dele Alli: "Mourinho always does it like that. Now he does it with Dele Alli at Tottenham. That's how he manages and he always succeeds. You can't blame him. He is a winner".

The Dutchman also recalled that he had had it out with Ranieri, his last coach at Chelsea: "A couple of weeks before Abramovich arrived, I was called into Ranieri's office. He told me that I had done very well with him, but that he had money to spend and that I should find a new club. I told him I wasn't going".

Then Chelsea bought Crespo and Mutu and Hasselbaink was still decisive. "Ranieri treated me badly, but he ended up calling me up and that proves me right," he continued.

Although football has changed a lot, Hasselbaink believes he would still score many goals in the current situation: "I think I would still score tons of goals. I could easily do it with modern centre-halves".
