Two anti-oil protesters interrupted play during the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United. They attempted to attach themselves to the goalposts in an effort to earn some face time for their cause.
For obvious reasons, they protested not only to grab the attention of the thousands of supporters in the stadium, but also the millions watching on TV and online around the world. On top of this, the protests have gone viral on social media and therefore, the protesters' reach has spread even further than football spectators. However, the two protesters at the Spurs game failed in their quest to attach themselves to the posts as the security team acted swiftly.
This type of pitch invasion had already been seen during the clash between Everton and Newcastle on Thursday night. These two examples of protest attempts leave football fans and the wider world curious about the organization behind them. The two individuals at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium were unsuccessful, so it begs the question whether or not a third protest attempt will be made.
