According to 'Football Italia', Milan's club director Leonardo has been in direct conversation with Chelsea's Marina Granovskaia in recent weeks as he looks to make additions to an injury-ridden squad.
Cesc Fabregas, 31, is said to be the top target for the 'Rossoneri', with the Spaniard out of contract at the end of the season and seemingly out-of-favour under Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea.
As a result, the 'Blues' may want to cash in on Fabregas in January, as is the case with Gary Cahill, who turns 33 next month and will also be out of contract in the summer.
Milan have been hit hard with injuries in defence and midfield this season, with Lucas Biglia, Giacomo Bonaventura and Mattia Caldara all currently sidelined for long periods.
However, Milan could be forced to look for a loan deal instead, in order to comply with Financial Fair Play restrictions.
Denmark international Andreas Christensen, 22, could tempt Gennaro Gattuso's side and the centre-back's lack of playing time could persuade him to move to the San Siro.
