Georges Mikautadze was one of the surprise packages of Euro 2024. In fact, the Georgia striker finished as one of the tournament's Golden Boot winners with three goals alongside Dani Olmo, Harry Kane, Cody Gakpo, Ivan Schranz and Jamal Musiala.
His name was already being bandied about after the good season he had with Metz (13 goals) despite relegation, but it was the national team tournament that gave him the final push.
That push seemed to put him on the way to Monaco. The French team had bet big on the forward, for whom they were willing to pay 25 million euros.
However, there has been a U-turn in the talks between the Monegasque club and the player's inner circle. According to 'L'Equipe', the disagreement has been forced by the player at the last minute, when the deal seemed to be closed and even the medical was already finalised.
Mikautadze allegedly wants to move to Olympique Lyon, with whom he has been in talks in recent weeks and who are offering him a contract for the next five seasons.
