He is considered one of Germany's most talented prospects and now Meyer will be a free agent in the summer after his current club Schalke confirm that the attacking midfielder has turned down the chance to sign a contract extension with the club.
Heidel broke the news on Schalke's twitter account, revealing: "Max Meyer will definitely leave Schalke this summer. We're dealing with the situation very professionally. It's all been very amicable".
The 22-year-old has been at the Bundesliga outfit since breaking into their first-team in 2013, making 146 appearances and scoring 17 goals in the process.
The news that he will be available on a free transfer this summer will no doubt kick up interest from numerous top clubs across Europe.
Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly keen on signing Meyer while Arsenal and Liverpool lead the charge from England. Either way, it's going to be a race to sign the youngster when his contract expires on June 30.
