Whilst England's team selection on Saturday suggested that finishing third at the World Cup wasn't their biggest priority, they certainly wouldn't have been expecting to find themselves behind inside three four minutes.

The 'Three Lions' made several changes for the game, including two at the back and their usually steadfast defence was breached early on in St Petersburg.

Romelu Lukaku was given far too much space in the middle of the park and he slipped in the marauding Nacer Chadli down the left.

He surged beyond Kieran Trippier before crossing low into the middle, where Thomas Meunier had got the run on Danny Rose to convert the delivery beyond a rooted Jordan Pickford from six yards.

In truth, it was a remarkably simple goal, suggesting that England may not be quite over their defeat to Croatia on Wednesday night.
